Large Town & Country Gardens

The Brief

The design of large town and country gardens starts off with your brief for the garden project. No two gardens are ever the same so it is important for us to find out what you are looking for in your garden. This is called the ‘client brief’ and we aim to listen very carefully to you and understand exactly what you are looking for from your new garden.

This can range from quite a detailed brief whereby you have already decided on how you generally would like to see the layout of the garden, to a complete blank canvas where you would like us to come up with a fresh idea that inspires you. Either way you are likely to need a garden design of some description.

The Design

In order to complete a garden design for your garden we will need to carefully analyse your brief and complete a survey of the garden. Occasionally when designing a larger garden it is necessary to compartmentalise the space and then design the garden with an overall theme in mind.

Alternatively areas of the garden may be designed to be separate rooms with a very different feel to them. For example a modern patio or terrace joined to the rear of your house, perhaps linked through planting to a more informal lawn or wildflower meadow beyond. We will most likely need to take into account what’s outside the garden too – be it views or vistas that we should make the most of, or alternatively objects or buildings you would like obscured with careful design or large planting.

What to Expect

Most gardens are likely to contain one or more formal seating areas that make the most of the location, often designed for sun or shade at optimum times of the day. Depending on the style this can be a traditional York stone terrace, or more modern hard wood decking or cut stone. The garden design is likely to have picked out existing elements you want to retain in the garden and also new elements that make the finished garden. This can be anything from a feature plant, statue, or small pond, up to garden buildings, swimming pools, meadows or larger sculptural elements.

With regard to the planting there is a lot of scope in larger gardens to play with different styles and have beds that make the most of all the seasons. This could be with an emphasis on more evergreen planting nearer the house that can look good at all times in the year, and then seasonal borders in the garden that look at their best at the times you are more likely to be in the garden.

The Finished Garden

Once a design is in place we are then able to quote for the overall cost of the project. Alternatively, we can quote for a section of the garden with other aspects being completed at a later date.

At Green Rooms we aim to provide a complete garden design and build service. We will also assist with the overall management of a garden project including overseeing specialist work such as swimming pool, outdoor building construction, light installation, etc., in order to ensure the finished garden lives up to your expectations.

Services

At green rooms we are a full service garden design and build company which brings you the convenience of having only one point of contact and some cost benefits too.

However we also like to be flexible and can tailor exactly which of our services you need for a totally bespoke garden solution. For the sake of clarity we split our services into design, build and planting.

We also offer a free consultation to help work out everything you want from your garden or space.

Design

A number of design services are offered. At it’s simplest you may only need a simple layout plan for a beautiful low maintenance planting scheme. At the other end of the scale large complex projects will have detailed technical plans, mood boards and 3d computer generated simulations.

Green rooms recently designed and carried out the work for a total make over on my garden. I thoroughly recommend them for all aspects of the design and works process..

Build

Green rooms has a team of landscapers with many years of experience, who can complete all aspects of our landscaping projects. From initial clearance to all forms of garden and landscape construction, as well as making sure everything is clean and tidy before we leave!

They have knowledge of what will look good in your garden and it's great to be given a full set of plans. I would happily use them again and recommend them to friends and family.

Plant

Planting is about having plants that look good in places where they will thrive. This takes design skills and detailed plant knowledge of the sort that we pride ourselves at green rooms. It also takes a thorough understanding of your own personal style and what you want in your garden.

From the initial planning, to the building of the pergola, then  discussions about the plantings we were very pleased with the way the project was undertaken and absolutely delighted with the finished garden.
